Through this program, you are able to assist the population of Kosovo who have been harmed by the war to povide themselves with food basics. This program is particularly important in providing children with basic nutrition containing sufficient proteins. The economy of Kosovo is impacted in a positive way as it allows small farmers to preserve their jobs and income.

Stephan Reisacher Agribusiness is a company which specialises in the exportation of German breeding cattle and we offer to you our services as reliable partner in the Kosovo.

Well known international organisations appreciate our reliability and experience over many years of delivering pregnant heifers into regions of crisis and conflict all over the world. So we have made successfully the first shipment of high-quality heifers from Germany to the Kosovo!

THE JOURNEY OF A COW TO THE KOSOVO

Hi! My name is Alma and I live in a small village in Kosovo. I was born in Bavaria, but when I was two years old, I was relocated to Kosovo as part of a human aid program.

...it was just an ordinary day. I was grazing quietly in a lush pasture in the Bavarian mountains when suddenly my farmer made a visit with some strangers. They inspected me carefully from all sides with knowing eyes and touch. Even my udder was examined carefully. They seemed to be pleased with what they saw. They nodded with satisfaction and wrote down the number of my ear tag in their little book.

Two days later my farmer brought me into his  stable from the pasture. There, he trimmed my hooves and washed and trimmed my hair. Then a truck drove me to a near quarantine stable where a veterinarian examined me and the other heifers of my age who had been brought there. He did a blood test and confirmed that all of us were pregnant.

Several days later our veterinarian visited us happily and confirmed that all of us were healthy and in good condition to travel. Our journey began.
We were each wighed and loaded on a special cattle truck which was furnished like a first class tourist bus. We stood up to our bellies in fresh, golden straw. Our compartment was equipped with ventilators and a water basin. We were fed with sweet smelling hay.  I wished my farmer could have seen that!

After a trip of eighteen hours, which passed by nearly unnoticed, we arrived in Southern Italy. We were allowed to leave our ‚tourist bus' and romp about. In addition to being able to walk around, we got fresh food and fresh water. While we were staying at this temporary facility, the veterinarian examined us again to make sure that all of us were still healthy and not been injured in our journey.
After our period of rest, we entered the truck again. We were pleased to see that it had been cleaned thoroughly and filled with fresh straw. We drove directly on to a ferryboat docked in the port. Our driver picked a nice spot on the upper deck where we were able to enjoy the fresh air and the light.
Sixteen hours later, we arrived in Greece. From there we took a ten hour trip to the North until we reached the frontier. Here, Greek and Macedonian veterinarians checked us over.  They found us in excellent health and gave us permission to continue our journey. Several hours later, we were at the border of our new homeland. Again, we were examined by a veterinarian and found to be in good condition and were sent on to our new village.
After three days, we finally arrived at our new village in Kosovo. About 30 adults and lots of children were there to greet us.

One by one, we left the truck. As we left, our documents containing detailed information about our parents and grandparents were given to our new owners. Everyone seemed to be pleased to see us.
I am very hapy and comfortable here in Kosovo. I feel proud to know how important I am to my farmer and to our village.

Together with my 33 heifer friends of the truck, we will produce more than 500 t of milk during our lifetime. We are creating jobs, securing the existence of farmers and providing very important proteins for children here.
