German Holsteins Black- & White-Holstein

The breed 'German Holsteins' has developed into Germany´s most important dairy breed. At present, over 1.5 million herdbook cows known for their high production ability are kept in about 30.000 registered herds.

Black-and-white and red-and-white German Holsteins are bred for high milk production and good growth performance. Breeding goal is the provitable, dairy type cow able to produce over many lactations and to cope with various management conditions.
Prerequisite is a genetically determined adaptability, a high forage and dry matter intake capacity as well as steady health and good fertility.
The industry strives for a genetic production capability of more than 8.000 kg milk at 4,0% fat and 3,5% protein. Special emphasis is put on the improvement of protein percentage.
Mature cows are supposed to obtain a size of between 145 and 150 cm as well as 750 kg of weight. Body and motion traits including correct and sound feet and legs have to correspond to the high production level. In addition, a functional udder is required that is easy to milk and allows high daily production over many lactations.
