![]() German Fleckvieh Simmental The aim is to breed dual-purpose cattle with a high rate of milk and meat production. A favourable level of profitableness is achieved through higher feed consumption in connection with higher productivity, regular fertility, rapid growth and adaptability. Firm, well formed, and easily milked udders, irreproachable limbs with sturdy hoofs, excellent muscles and a most favourable frame. Milk performance is the most important contributing factor in the economical success of the Simmental breed. Accordingly, this factor is the most important in breeding. German Simmental is especially noted for its high milk performance combined with high milkfat and protein content. Further, the quality of the protein in the milk is very favourable for a yield and best quality cheese. The breeding aim for the average performance is over 7,000 kg of milk with at least 3.9 % milkfat and 3.7 % protein. Beef production is an indispensable factor for the dual-purpose breed German Simmental. Simmental is especially noted for its highly intensive growth and growth capacity, excellent muscling and well marbled, delicate and tasty meat. Additionally is German Simmental cattle especially suitable for farms with suckler cows. In Germany are about 200,000 Simmental suckler cows. Simmental is, therefore, number one in relationship to the entire cattle population and to pedigree beef-producing cattle, having 13,000 Simmental suckler cows in the beef cattle herdbook. |
